Vibration management is a key factor in the design of products for transportation, consumer goods and industrial markets. Vibration can be both a source of annoying noise and the cause of damage to delicate components. Rogers’ Elastomeric Material Solutions are proven to address noise and vibration for critical applications. PORON® Polyurethane (including PORON® VXT™ Vibration Isolation materials) and BISCO® Silicone foams are highly resilient elastomers ideal for use as vibration isolators. These unique materials provide excellent resistance to compression set (collapse), and exhibit high resiliency, good vibration damping and impact absorption. The foams can deflect vibrations over long periods of time while experiencing only minimal changes in stiffness due to stress relaxation. Their stability in a wide range of environments makes than ideal candidates for vibration isolators in a wide range of applications. In addition, ARLON Self-Fusing Silicone Tapes bond irreversibly to dampen vibration while providing an insulative barrier that is resistant to moisture.
For aircraft interiors, BISCO® Silicones foams are a proven, long-term solution to reducing vibration-induced noise and are designed to meet stringent standards for extreme temperatures and flames. BISCO® A2 Sound Barrier is a solid silicone rubber engineered to meet demanding requirements for flammability, smoke density and toxicity. A2 blocks the transmission of sound and demonstrates excellent performance in low-frequency noise reduction. For additional vibration management, ARLON Self-Fusing Silicone Tapes bond irreversibly to dampen vibration and provide an insulative barrier that is moisture resistant.
Nothing can undermine an automotive customer’s confidence in a car more quickly than the presence of incessant noises and sounds, such as buzzes, squeaks and rattles (BSRs), also known as noise, vibration and harshness (NVR). Through BSR engineering, noise can be significantly lowered by reducing the transmission of structure-borne vibration and airborne sound from the road to the passenger compartment via the floor. PORON® Polyurethane Foams reduce BSR and provide improved NVH characteristics. Their unique formulation does not collapse, maintaining an effective seal over the life of the material. These foams, often used for vibration pads and dampeners, exhibit high resiliency, good vibration damping and impact absorption.
An HEV battery system requires robust materials to protect the sensitive contents from vibration. PORON® Polyurethane Foams provide excellent resistance to compression set (collapse), and exhibit high resiliency, good vibration damping, and impact absorption. This extends the life of the battery by continuing to seal and absorbing shock.
Specifically designed to provide low frequency vibration isolation in challenging environments, the PORON® VXT™ 4701-70 products are the thickest, toughest, strongest and most durable PORON polyurethane ever developed. The VXT products deliver the lowest natural frequency of any PORON® foam, making them ideal for tough applications like anti-vibration pads for rotating/vibrating equipment or flat elastic bearings for HVAC equipment and subsystems (fans, chillers, pumps). Designers find them highly reliable in addressing noise, vibration and harshness applications in demanding environments such as industrial machinery, petroleum/gas, power generation and transportation applications.
For portable, battery-operated products, such as mobile phones and tablets, PORON® Polyurethane Foams provide excellent resistance to compression set (collapse), and exhibit high resiliency, good vibration damping and impact absorption.
For rail passengers, noise and vibration can be particularly annoying. Rogers’ BISCO® product family offers a wide range of silicone based cellular foams and solids for use in various rail interior vibration management applications. BISCO® Cellular and Specialty Silicones provide acoustic solutions that block the path of sound and vibration, reducing noise and ensuring a more comfortable ride. The BISCO® Silicone L3 Premier family addresses vibration in rail car floating floors. Other materials are designed to handle a range of damping coefficients or to refrain from contributing to resonance. BISCO® silicones meet various national rail standards including NFPA 130 (US), BS 6853 (UK), DIN 5510 (Germany), EN 45545 (Europe) and NFF 16-101 (France).
